Sector groups

On Friday September 6th, the Liberia Chamber of Commerce formally launched the first of a series of meetings with sector groups.
The sector group meetings are intended to bring together businesses with a common interest to share knowledge, deliberate on issues, challenges, and come up with solutions and recommendations for policy makers or lead to an advocacy for policy reform.
The first meeting was held with agri-businesses and agro-allied groups. Opening remarks were made by the first vice President, Mr. Ahmed Wazni, he welcomed the businesses to the Chamber and emphasized the importance for the Chamber to have such engagments. His remarks was followed by self-introductions by participants which revealed a large number of Liberian businesses, ranging from farms, fintech, insurance companies, agro-processors, consultancies, etc.
The President, Mr. O. Natty B. Davis, formally launched the first sector meeting and spoke extensively on a variety of issues pertinent to private sector development and the Chamber. Three (3) Institutions were represented at the meeting, to share information on their work. The Ministry of Agriculture (MoA), the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI), and the Liberia Standard Authority (LiSA). The MoA was represented by Asst. Min. Hon. P. Foulton Blasin and his senior economist, Mr. Francis Mahn.
Hon. Blasin spoke extensively on the MoA newly launched agriculture plan and what is in it for small businesses. The Liberia Standards Authority, (LiSA) represented by Mr. Patrick Blamo, National Focal Point for Conformity Assessment presented on the activities of LiSA and their recent upgrade of services. Finally, the LIFT project, represented by Mr. Julius Saye Ker-nel, SME Specialist and his Finance collegue, Mr. Patrick provided useful information on the progress of the project. The meeting was interactive, informative and relevant to the times.
